The
Waller
Independent School District
is the
second largest school district in total square miles in the Houston area,
encompassing 328 square miles in Waller and northwest Harris Counties. Waller ISD is located on Hwy 290, approximately
40 miles northwest
of downtown Houston, in a semi-rural/agricultural region that is currently
undergoing rapid residential and commercial development. Seven Waller ISD
campuses serve over 5000 students.
For five consecutive
years, Waller ISD has been the safest Harris County school district among
the twenty-two compared for juvenile offender activity (2000-2004 Annual

is a dynamic and fast-paced school district that provides an excellent
education for students PreK through the twelfth grade. Innovative thinking
and teamwork are hallmarks of the district, and over the past few years
Waller ISD has emerged as a state and national leader in technology
education. All schools and administrative buildings in the district are
networked through a fiber optic wide area network, and all classrooms and
libraries have direct Internet connections. There are more than two dozen integrated technology
learning programs in use throughout the district.
In
2005, the WHS Computer Science Team became the smallest school ever to win
the Texas Computer Education Association Large School Division State
Championship, earning a perfect score in the primarily 5A contest. WHS
also won the State 4A UIL Computer Science Championship for the second
year in a row, and a WHS student made the top score in the competition. In
2005, WHS had one National Merit Scholarship winner and one National
Achievement Scholarship winner. The WHS Quiz Bowl Team advanced to the
Elite Eight of the Greater Houston Academic Challenge, and Waller Junior
High won the 2005 District 18AAAA UIL Academic Championship.

extra-curricular activities. Students can choose from award-winning bands,
choirs, and theatre arts; ten team sports; and over 30 other student
activities. A Performing Arts addition, an academic
wing, and other improvements are currently under construction at WHS.
Sixty percent of the district’s graduates are college-bound, and
in 2005, WHS graduates received approximately $2 million in
scholarship opportunities.
