WHS Band
Members’ Individual Successes
Dec 8-9 over 1,000
band students from across the region participated in Region 27 band
auditions. From those 1,000, a select few achieved the coveted
opportunity to advance 4A Area including six students from Waller High
School (WHS). Those musicians were Lauren Forester (piccolo), Elspelth
Bacher (flute), Catherine Waldrop (oboe), Ashley Burton (trumpet), Katie
Robinson (trombone), and Kendrick Woodard (percussion). In addition,
four WHS students were selected to perform as members of the Region 27
honor bands. Those students were Ashley Burton (trumpet, symphonic
band), Elspeth Bacher (flute, concert band), Randallyn Kelso
(percussion, freshman band), and Cody Winton (alto saxophone, freshman
band).
Senior trumpet player, Cameron Kubos, was also selected to perform
as a member of the All-State Jazz band. Due to recent realignment, there
are no longer enough 4A schools to form a performing 4A band so; these
performing spots are in combination with all 5A schools in our region,
thereby making them much more competitive.
Kubos also auditioned to become a member of the Cavaliers Drum and
Bugle Corps Nov 10-12. During that audition, Kubos received a “one”
rating, which invited him to travel to Chicago for the final round of
auditions Jan 5-7. If he receives a “one” in Chicago, he will become a
member of the reigning World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.
