Waller ISD says “Thank
you” to Bill and Marsha Jordan
For years Bill and Marsha Jordan
have been active supporters of Waller ISD. Through the years, they’ve
helped schools and programs close to $5 million.
Bill, an auctioneer and volunteer, and Marsha, substitute teacher
and volunteer, are the proud parents of Teel Jordan, now in eighth grade
at Waller Junior High (WJH). But the Jordans aren’t active volunteers
only at the school where their son attends; they go above and beyond for
all students in WISD. They have taken part in volunteer work and
fundraising events for Waller High School (WHS), WJH, Schultz Middle
School (SMS), Holleman Elementary (HES), Jones Elementary (JES), Fields
Store Elementary (FSE), and the band and football programs.
Marsha has accepted multiple long term substitute teacher
positions, but will turn down a paying job if there is volunteer work
somewhere in Waller ISD that needs to be done. She has also been a PTO
officer at SMS and HES.
When Bill accepts the opportunity to work an auction for a school
or group, he personally visits local business to solicit donations and
buyers. He reminds them how important it is to give back to the children
in their community.
Together they work closely with principals and sponsors to support
needs and desires. Volunteering is not an option for the Jordans; they
take on various tasks as their personal duty to make sure faculty,
staff, and students have the support they need.
At HES, the Jordans were the leading parents involved in the 2001
playground fundraiser, “Families Supporting Cash & Coins for Safe
Play.” In Feb. 2001, an auction and barbecue held at the Lion’s Club in
Waller raised around $47,000. Bill and Marsha were responsible for
helping to organize the fundraiser, acquiring many donated items, and
Bill was the auctioneer. They helped to bring the community together to
support HES’ endeavor. Because of their efforts, the playground
fundraiser was a great success. They continue take an active role in HES’
annual Fall Festival.
“Holleman’s faculty, staff and students appreciate the support and
time that the Jordan family has contributed to our playground and PTO
Fall Festival fundraisers,” HES Principal Merilyn Godwin said.
Just in the two years the Jordans have helped FSE with the PTO’s
annual “Breakfast with Santa” Auction, close to $40,000 has been raised.
“The success was not just because of what Bill and Marsha did the
day of the actual event, but the hours they spent prior encouraging
buyers, collecting auction items, meeting with PTO chairpersons, and
making purchases themselves. Sharing their expertise on how to conduct
such an event has helped set the quality tone for the event and its
continued success. Most definitely this fundraising event would not have
reached this caliber in just two short years without their time and
talents,” FSE Principal Amy Lacey said.
At WJH, the Jordans have raised money for the Bulldog Bike Ride.
Marsha has worked as a volunteer and helped with teacher appreciation
weeks. The Jordans also participate at a high level in most fundraisers
and collection drives.
“The Jordans are true servants to Waller ISD tirelessly giving not
only of their own time but also working to involve others in assisting
WISD,” WJH Principal Troy Mooney said.
“Mr. and Mrs. Jordan have done an outstanding job of raising funds
for WHS. They are vital to the continued success of many of our
extracurricular programs,” WHS Principal Kelly Baehren said.
The Jordans are also active in the band program’s annual dinner and
auction, and the football program’s annual “Football Frenzy.” Over the
last six years, the band auction has raised approximately $60,000 and
last year alone, the “Football Frenzy” raised approximately $70,000.
At SMS, the Jordans help with the annual “Family Fun Fest”. In two
years they have raised over $80,000.
“They are absolutely wonderful people,” SMS Principal Brian Merrell
said, “They are loyal to the teachers and students in the district. They
take an active and vocal stance for what’s right and what’s needed.”
“We sincerely appreciate the dedicated support Bill and Marsha
Jordan provide for Waller ISD and the community,” WISD Superintendent
Richard McReavy said.
For all they do, have done, and will do. Waller ISD would like to
say “Thank You to Bill and Marsha Jordan.” |
