Proposed ’07-’08 School Calendars revealed at DSBDMC Meeting
During a
District Site-Based Decision Making Committee (DSBDMC) meeting held Jan. 23
in the Waller ISD (WISD) board room, three proposed versions of the
2007-2008 calendar were revealed.
Planning the proposed versions of the 2007-2008 school calendar was
exceptionally difficult this year after taking into consideration the length
of teacher contracts (187 days), testing days, recommended number of
instructional days (180), and restriction on start date. (The widely
discussed House Bill 1, passed this summer, states that beginning with the
2007-2008 school calendar, districts may not begin before the last Monday in
August–Aug. 27, 2007.)
A sub-committee of volunteers from the DSBDMC consisting of district
employees and community members created the three versions of the calendar
which will now be available for public viewing and voting at any WISD campus
or on WISD’s website at
www.wallerisd.net. The votes will be tallied Feb. 7 and the
calendar that receives the highest number of votes will be presented to the
WISD Board of Trustees for approval during their next regular meeting
scheduled for Feb. 8. Upon approval by the Board, the calendar will be
published in its final form. |
