WISD Board calls Trustee
Election for May 10
During the regular meeting of the
Waller ISD Board of Trustees Monday Feb. 11, the Board recognized
outstanding students Shawn Avery Robertson from Jones Elementary School for
receiving an “Award of Excellence” in an HEB photography contest; Waller
Junior High student Kayla White for being selected to the All-Region Treble
Choir; Waller High School (WHS) choir students Chelsea Contravis, Gloria
Holloway, and Charlie Terrell for qualifying to compete at the state level;
WHS student James Faber for completing his Eagle Scout project for WHS; and
the WHS machine shop for their participation in HUNCH, a pilot project for
NASA.
In the regular agenda, the board voted unanimously to call for a May
10, 2008 school board trustee election for Position 1 and Position 2. Those
positions are currently held by Dr. David Kirkpatrick and Shaun Nelson.
Early voting by personal appearance will be held April 28-May 4 and May
5-6 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Waller ISD Administration Building located at
2214 Waller Street, Waller, Texas 77484. Early voting will also be held
April 29 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Waller County Community Center located at
21274 FM 1098 Loop West, Prairie View, Texas 77446; April 30 from 8 a.m.-4
p.m. at Roberts Road Elementary located at 24920 Zube Road, Hockley, Texas
77447; and May 1 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Fields Store Elementary located at
31670 Giboney Road, Waller, Texas, 77484.
Applications for ballot by mail should be mailed to Jennifer Schroeder,
Early Voting Clerk, Waller ISD, 2214 Waller Street, Waller, Texas 77484.
Applications for ballots by mail must be received no later than the close of
business May 2. Mail ballots can be secured from Jennifer Schroeder.
May 10 polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at Waller Junior High
located at 2402 Waller Street, Waller, Texas 77484; the Waller County
Community Center (location listed above); Roberts Road Elementary (location
listed above), and Fields Store Elementary (location listed above).
The Board also approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Waller
where the City of Waller will close Farr Street between Waller and Daugherty
Streets for 50 years or until the property on either side of the roadway is
not used for public school purposes to protect students who cross the street
between the east and west campuses of Waller Junior High. In return, Waller
ISD will dedicate an easement on Daugherty Street between Fields Store Road
and Locust Street, to the City of Waller for public use.
In information items, Curriculum Director Joy Kanyo presented details
on 2008 summer school.
