WJH back-to-back “UIL Academic Champions”

Waller Junior High (WJH) was crowned BACK-TO-BACK district UIL Academic Champions following competition held in two parts Feb. 4, Feb. 9, and April 2. The championship was a culmination of success by many at WJH and was coordinated by Lynna Berry.
     WJH competed against tough competition from Magnolia, Bear Branch, Brenham, Lynn Lucas, Brabham, and Montgomery Junior High Schools, but was the undisputed winner as the seventh grade scored 269 points, its closest competitor (Montgomery) was 38 points behind; the eighth grade scored 233 points, its closest competitor (Magnolia) was 17 points behind.
     Seventh grade results were as follows: Dulcinea Cervantes (4th–Impromptu Speaking) Charlie Caslett (5th–Modern Oratory), Kyler Beaty (6th–Modern Oratory, 1st Dictionary Skills), Ursula Cedillo-Johnson (1st–Poetry, 3rd–Mathematics), Yndelecia Ojeda (2nd–Poetry), Hannah Hogan (3rd–Poetry), Elizabeth Baldwin (1st Prose), Jessica Watts (2nd–Prose), Nahid Ferdous (4th–Prose), Amanda Sandstedt (5th–Art), Colton Butler (6th–Art), Deborah Adesegun (2nd-Dictionary Skills, 3rd Editorial Writing), Caitlyn Summers (3rd–Dictionary Skills, 4th–Editorial Writing), Christian Sowell (1st–Calculator Applications), Jessica Riles (4th–Calculator Applications), Mia Houle (2nd Mathematics), Omar Raygoza (2nd–Number Sense), Abraham Perez (5th–Number Sense), Austin Nelson (2nd–Science), Joshua Ward (Tie for 3rd–Science I), Conner Cheney (1st–Spelling, 6th–Ready Writing), and Taylor Walker (2nd–Spelling).
     Other seventh grade students who participated were: Impromptu Speaking – Bobby McCoy and Bailey Robinson; Modern Oratory – Christian Sowell; Art – Nathan Atzenhoffer; Dictionary Skills – Yndalecia Ojeda; Calculator Applications – Elizabeth Jimenez; Listening Skills – Jessica Snow, Bobby McCoy, Mackenzie Summer, and Alton Hester; Maps, Charts, & Graphs – Indy Wachtendorf, Austin Saffron, Jacob Lewis, and Christian Creath; Mathematics – Alexis Aguirre and Kurenthia Walker; Number Sense – Steven Miller and Corrina Manning; Science I – Aaron Allen and Nahid Ferdous; Social Studies – Jacob Lohr and Codie Barnett; Spelling – Lauren Rowsey and Jamie Duong; Ready Writing – Taylor Walker and Lauren Rowsey; Editorial Writing – Makayla Murski and Eryn Hendrix.
     Eighth grade results were as follows: Tia Murphy-White (1st–Modern Oratory), Nicholas Gray (6th–Modern Oratory, 5th Mathematics), Kaylon White (1st Poetry), Natalie Preuss (2nd–Poetry), Chaney Robinson (4th–Poetry, 2nd–Maps, Charts, & Graphs), Stacy Easly (2nd–Prose), Dallas Kiser (4th–Prose), Katelyn Rochen (2nd–Dictionary Skills), Melanie Luckett (5th–Dictionary Skills), Destiny Trammel (4th Calculator Applications), Summer Watchtendorf (1st–Listening Skills), Megan Hall (3rd–Listening Skills), Victor Yap (3rd–Number Sense), John Landon (4th–Number Sense), Shane Mays (5th–Number Sense), Pisey Vong (1st–Science II), Geena Hughes (1st–Spelling, 3rd–Ready Writing), Sara DeBerry (4th–Spelling, 5th Ready Writing), Sarah Friedel (5th–Spelling), and Mathew Holub (5th–Editorial Writing).

Johnson; Maps, Charts, & Graphs – Christian Daigle, Brook Kroll, and Hunter Schmidt; Mathematics – Kayla White, Hanna Owhl, and Leslie Hilburn; Number Sense – Kaylon White; Science II – Alez Pretto, Nicholas Kaminski, and Jeron Eastwick; Social Studies – Mary Brinkley, Nichole Barkley, Kameron Chard, and Trevor Phillips; Spelling – Alex Sandstedt; Ready Writing – Aries Jones and Hanna Oehl; Editorial Writing – Marcus Edwards.
     Seventh and eighth grade students who participated in One-Act Play competition were: Faith Celaya, Christian Daigle, Davonna Edgerson, Raphael Gonzalez, Taylor Hodges, Taylor Jeske, Dallas Kiser, Chasidy Lavergne, Francisca Lopez, Bobby McCoy, Shelby Neel, Austin Parades, Jacob Parmer, Garrett Pitchford, Jacob Schmidt, Richard Sirman, and Autumn Tillery.
