WHS Lady Bulldog Softball
suffers 3 difficult losses in district play
March 8 Waller High School’s Lady
Bulldog softball team faced Caney Creek on the road. It had been a long week
for the Lady Bulldogs who couldn’t get on their field, due to rain. WHS
junior Kayla Shaffer started off the first inning with a triple and the Lady
‘Dogs were tied up. Then, Caney Creek went ahead until HWS senior Christine
Brunmley hit an amazing three run home run in the top of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh the Bulldogs couldn’t hold onto the game and
took a devastating 6-5 loss.
March 13 the Lady Bulldogs were back in action at their home field
against the Huntsville Hornets. After the game was delayed by weather, it
came down to a battle of the pitchers with WHS senior Kelsi Loewe hurling 10
strikeouts. Huntsville went ahead 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning, but
the Bulldogs didn’t lose their fight. In the bottom of seventh inning WHS
sophomore Shelby Fellers walked with two outs and freshman McCale Fite hit
her in with a triple. Unfortunately, Waller did not score again, and took
another hard hit with a loss of 2-1.
March 14 the WHS team was finally able to play on a true game night at
Brenham High School. The Lady ‘Dogs had an aggressive first inning scoring
three runs, and put pressure on Brenham’s Cubettes. The spark seemed to die
as Brenham took over the lead, and was able to hold on until the end. After
several WHS defensive errors, the Lady Bulldogs suffered their third
district loss 13-4.
Luckily enough the softball season still has a long way to playoff time
and this year looks promising with a talented group of Lady Bulldogs who are
hungry for a playoff bid!
