WHS Bands “Sweep” UIL

April 15 the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble from Waller High School performed in Region 27 UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest at Brenham High School. This is the bands’ annual "concert" contest that serves as a partner to UIL marching contest held each fall. This competition takes place in two parts, concert and sight Reading. For the concert portion, each band prepares and performs three pieces of music from a prescribed list for adjudicated performance and then during the sight reading portion, is asked to read an entirely new piece of music for another panel of judges.
     This year, both WHS bands delivered outstanding performances and were awarded straight Division 1-Superior ratings (the best possible) from both concert and sight reading judges. This qualifies the WHS band program for the coveted "Sweepstakes" award for the third consecutive year. They have also set a historic precedent as it has been some time since both competing bands at WHS earned straight Division I ratings in UIL concert and sight reading contest. It also has been considerably longer since every competing band in Waller ISD received a Division I rating for their concert performance!
     The Symphonic Band’s concert performances were “Tricycle” by A. Boysen, “Chanteys” by R. Sheldon, and “March Electric” by G. Creatore. The Wind Ensemble’s concert performances were “Second Suite in F for Military Band” by G. Holst, “An American Elegy” by F. Ticheli, and “The Arabian Sentinel” by K.L. King
     “We are incredibly proud of the students we have in our program. Their hard work and dedication truly shine in everything that they do. Please congratulate them for such an amazing accomplishment,” WISD Director of Bands Cory Meals said, “Huge congratulations also goes out to the band staff. Their consistent dedication to team teaching every ensemble has created dramatic improvements in our student's performance every year.”
