WISD Board Cancels Trustee
Election
During the
regular meeting of the Waller ISD Board of Trustees held April 9, the Board
gave notice of cancellation of the trustee election scheduled for May.
In accordance with Section 2.053(a) of the Texas Education Code,
Trustee Bryan Lowe (Position 3) and Trustee Paul Wood (Position 4) were
certified as unopposed and thereby reelected. The new term for Lowe and Wood
will expire in 2010.
The Board also approved an agreement with TLC Office Systems for the
installation of a new telephone system. The new system will use the
district’s existing fiber optic network therefore saving money that had
previously been spent on monthly phone carrier fees for approximately the
last 10 years. Telephone numbers to the district’s campuses and offices will
not change.
The Board made many outstanding district recognitions during the
meeting. They included the Waller High School (WHS) Boy’s Soccer Team that
advanced to the second round of playoffs. 11 players from that team
including Carlos Nava, Martin Lavelle, Salvador Guerra, Juan Amaro, Brandon
Goebel, Omar Pinales, Tino Perez, Daniel Martinez, Angel Mendiola, Hector
Bazan, and William Garcia were named All-District. Nava was named district
19-4A Offensive MVP. The WHS Cross Examination Debate Team of Tiffany Dancy
and George Nassan, coached by Jessica Jefferson, which advanced to state as
alternates; WHS Powerlifters Jacoby Davis, DeAndrea Bowdre, Eddie Brown, and
Don Nash for their accomplishments at the Regional and State Powerlifting
Meets; Bowdre won her second consecutive State Champion title; and the WHS
Chorale and Combined Treble Choir for their accomplishments at UIL Solo &
Ensemble competition. The Combined Treble choir received a Sweepstakes award
at the competition.
The Board heard information items on 2007 summer school from WISD
Curriculum Director -Joy Kanyo, the proposed 2007-2008 Student/Parent
Handbook from WISD Assistant Superintendent Danny Twardowski, and bank
depository bids.
Important dates noted were: April 30-May 8 – Early Voting for the
School Bond Election (voting to be held at the WISD Administration Building
8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 30-May 4; 7 a.m.-7 p.m. May 7-8); May 12 – School Bond
Election (voting to be held 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at Waller Junior High); May 14 –
Regular Board Meeting; May 30 – Waller ISD Years of Service Awards Luncheon
and last day of school.
