2008 Teachers of the
Year honored by WISD Board
The
Waller ISD Campus Teachers of the Year were presented to the WISD Board
of Trustees during the regular Board Meeting May 14. Selected by peers
at their respective campuses, the honorees were: Walt Snitkin (Waller
High School), Becky Elbert (Waller Junior High), Betsy Gardner (Schultz
Middle School), Teresa Garrett (Fields Store Elementary), Nancy Kelley
(Holleman Elementary), Patricia Sedillo (Jones Elementary), and Sheree
Beal (Robert Road Elementary). The WISD District Teachers of the Year –
Sheree Beal (Elementary) and Becky Elbert (Secondary) – were announced
at the meeting. The Board also recognized another outstanding teacher,
Jones Elementary School’s Jan Jackson, who was named Wal-Mart Teacher of
the year.
The Board also recognized a record 17 groups for their outstanding
academic, athletic, and fine arts achievements. Those recognized were
the Schultz Middle School (SMS) beginner band, SMS sixth grade honor
choir, Waller Junior High (WJH) UIL academic championship team, WJH wind
ensemble, WJH CASE students who won the Shell “Energy of the Future”
competition, WJH girls and boys track teams, Waller High School (WHS)
band, WHS students who participated the Chernobyl Children’s Project
fundraiser, WHS All-District girls and boys basketball players, WHS
All-District girls soccer players, WHS UIL academic team, and WHS
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art winners.
In other business, the Board voted 7-0 to approve 2007-2008
elementary staffing requests. The Board also discussed proposed changes
to the 2007-2008 Student/Parent Handbook.
Important dates noted were: May 30 – Last Day of School (Early
Release) and WISD Years of Service Luncheon (for WISD Faculty and
Staff); June 2 – Graduation; June 11 – Regular Board Meeting. |
