Waller ISD celebrates
50 years of service for Turlington
The 2006-2007 school year marked
50 consecutive years of service to Waller ISD for district treasure
Evelyn Turlington. Turlington has taught both elementary and secondary
subjects since 1957 and is currently the instructional facilitator at
H.T. Jones Elementary School. After 50 years, Turlington continues to
have the fire and desire to be an exceptional educator.
May 7, marked the official celebration of the true educator as
former and current students, family, friends, and community and district
leaders gathered for the dedication of “Turlington Park;” a quote from
Turlington herself. The park is situated in front of Jones Elementary. A
flagstone stamped slab displays a bench and pedestal with an open book
that reads “My success lies in the success of my former students;” a
quote from Turlington herself. There are also two bronze statues of a
students reading. In the near future, there will be an arbor covering
the slab and landscaping to beautify the Jones campus. Turlington was
also given a dozen pink roses and a gift basket filled with items and
gift certificates donated by friends and area businesses.
“Mrs. Turlington is an exceptional educator. She has touched the
lives of so many students over the last fifty years and we look forward
to her presence for many years to come,” Waller ISD Superintendent
Richard McReavy said.
“Mrs. Turlington is a very special teacher who takes an enormous
amount of pride in her responsibility as a teacher. She has such a great
heart for kids and a passion for helping others. She not only makes a
difference in the life of everyone she touches, she makes an impact,”
Waller ISD Assistant Superintendent Danny Twardowski said.
None of this would have been possible without the generous hearts
of those touched by Turlington or her story. Many friends, former
students, and area businesses have contributed including Hempstead
Wal-Mart (Manager Dennis Wellman), The Hill Resturant (Leonard and Vicki
Borchgardt), Fraiser’s (Billy Fraizer), Logan’s Run Tree Farm (Mark
Cerny), Allied Concrete Material (Johnny Cook), All Texas Commercial
Concrete (Joe Flores and employees), Mary Alice Cure and her parents,
Walter Schiel, Margie Hamner, Richey Plemper, Las Fuentes Restaurant,
Denny’s Restaurant (Cypress), Best Buy (Cypress), Office Depot
(Cypress), Dr. Marion Henry (Prairie View A&M University), Chili’s
Restaurant (Cypress), Hobby Lobby (Cypress), Dr. Robert Williams, Lone
Star Lube (Paul and Mary Wood), Lowe’s Building Products (Cypress;
District Manager Jerry King, Store Manager J.W. Washington and their

If you too would like to honor Turlington, contributions to the
libraries at H.T. Jones or I.T. Holleman Elementary School will be
accepted in order to purchase books for students. A dedication plate
will be placed inside each book paying tribute to Turlington. For more
