Waller ISD students
win national poetry contest.
Three Waller ISD
students; Christopher Wilkerson (left), Alyssa Herrera (right), and
Harley Jester (not pictured); were winners of the 2006 Student Poetry
Contest sponsored by The America Library of Poetry and The American
Literacy Council. The contest was open to students all across the United
States. As winners, these students’ poems will be published in an
anthology of children’s poetry entitled “Excellence.” The book will be
released this fall. The students entered the contest in May 2006 as
fourth grade students in Dawn Mayfield’s class at Fields Store
Elementary. They recently discovered they were winners as fifth grade
students at Schultz Middle School. |
