The Art program explores the use of Elements of Art and Principles of Design while using imagination and creative thinking. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, digital art, fibers, and sculpture. Opportunities will be given to record from direct observation in the world around them, along with reflecting on historic and cultural heritage to influence their personal expressions.
Throughout the year, students will build a portfolio and be encouraged to participate in contests and art shows. The art contests would include The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, The Rodeo Quick Draw, Scholastic Art & Writing, as well as other local competitions.
We encourage our students to participate in community art collaborations such as the Art Club and the WJH Gallery Night to showcase student artworks for parents.
