Waller High School will be hosting a Career Day on Thursday, November 7th from 7:30am-11:45 a.m. Career Day gives us the opportunity to partner with our community to expand career awareness for our students. Representatives’ sharing their expertise and career success with our students helps make a difference in their lives. During the Career Day, students will have the opportunity to explore the different careers represented and speak with representatives from various career fields they might be interested in. Representatives will set up a table related to their career field and be prepared to answer questions from students regarding the following: job description, education/training requirements, salary range/advancement opportunities, job benefits/security satisfaction, stressors, transfers, hours involved, and future of the field.
Waller High School will be hosting our annual College Night on Wednesday, October 9th from 6:00pm-8:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to meet with representatives from colleges and universities, technical schools, and the military. The counselors will also be hosting a Parent Meetings that night in the auditorium from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Hope to see you there!
Generation TX Week
In 2011, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board engineered the development of a campaign to increase awareness and build support for the new college and career readiness standards, prepare students for all postsecondary education options, and clarify the application process for postsecondary admission and student financial aid. The higher education campaign, Generation TX is a statewide movement focused on creating a culture of college and career readiness that leads to the most successful generation in Texas history. All over Texas, students are standing up, finding their voices, and fueling the movement.
Waller High School will take an active role in providing comprehensive information regarding the pursuit of higher education during the week of October 7th through 11th. The legislation requires information on higher education options, admission requirements, and scores necessary on recognized assessments be included in the information provided to students. During this week, Waller High School will host an array of activities including videos on higher education, postsecondary options, paying for college, along with a few of our staff members’ personal college journeys. Helpful information and resources are available on the College for All Texans website (http://www.collegeforalltexans.com/) and Generation TX website (http://gentx.org/).
