SJH Band
Overview:
The Schultz Junior High Bulldog Band is classified as a CCC. We are proud to have approximately 275 band students in our program. The program is divided into four bands based on ability.
Beginner Band
- The Beginner Band is comprised of first-year band students primarily in sixth grade. Prior experience is not necessary: each student goes through a fitting process to help determine the instrument on which the student will be most successful. Students receive instruction on fundamental tone, rhythmic concepts, and basic music reading skills to prepare them for one of three performing bands in their second year. Mrs. Alice’s beginner classes include the euphonium, French horn, trombone, trumpet, trombone, and tuba. Mr. Baggerly's beginner classes include alto saxophone, bassoon, clarinet, flute, and oboe. Mr. Gatlin is the Percussion Coordinator for all of WISD and he teaches the percussion class.
- Performances include: Fall Recital, Winter Concert, Solo Recital, Spring Concert, Solo Contest
Concert Band
- The Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Baggerly, is the third performing band and is comprised of mostly seventh grade students. The purpose of the band is to further develop the fundamental and technical skills of each individual in preparation for advancement the following year.
- Performances include: football games, pep rallies, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Solo & Ensemble contest.
Symphonic Band
- The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Baggerly, is the second performing band and is comprised of primarily seventh and eighth grade students. The Symphonic Band is required by Texas UIL regulations to play Grade 1 music from the TMEA Prescribed Music List. Students in this band have weekly rehearsals to prepare for performances and contests.
- Performances include: football games, pep rallies, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Solo & Ensemble Contest, Spring Festival, and UIL Concert/Sight Reading competition.
Wind Ensemble
- The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mrs. Alice, is the top performing instrumental ensemble and is comprised of primarily seventh and eighth grade students. The Wind Ensemble is required by Texas UIL regulations to play Grade 3 music from the TMEA Prescribed Music List. Students in this band have weekly rehearsals to prepare for performances and contests. Additionally, the students in Wind Ensemble are strongly encouraged to compete in the Region 27 All-Region Band auditions in the fall.
- Performances include: football games, pep rallies, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Solo & Ensemble Contest, UIL Concert/Sight Reading competition, Spring Festival, and the Middle School All-Region auditions.
