• McKinney-Vento Program for Homeless Students
    The McKinney-Vento Act of 1987 established rights and protections for families and students that are experiencing homelessness within the United States. Waller ISD ensures that all students who may be experiencing homelessness, as defined below, have access to a free and fair education without the worry of prejudice, judgement, or financial strain. 

    Homelessness is defined as:
    "(A) individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence (within the meaning of section 103(a)(1)); and
    (B) includes--
    (i) children and youths who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar
    reason; are living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations;
    are living in emergency or transitional shelters; or are abandoned in hospitals;*
    (ii) children and youths who have a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily
    used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings (within the meaning of section 103(a)(2)(C));
    (iii) children and youths who are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train
    stations, or similar settings; and
    (iv) migratory children (as such term is defined in section 1309 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) who
    qualify as homeless for the purposes of this subtitle because the children are living in circumstances described in clauses (i)
    through (iii)."

    Foster Care
    Students that reside in DFPS (Department of Family and Protective Services) custody are a special priority to Waller ISD. We want to ensure that all students within the Foster Care system are given a quality education with dignity, normalcy, and respect. Students enrolling that are in DFPS custody will need to provide the "2085" Form to the registrar at the time of enrollment. WISD follows the Foster Care Transportation Guidance as provided by The Texas Education Agency (TEA). Please feel free to review that guidance looking at the document below.     Dropout Prevention
    In Waller ISD, we believe in the power of education. We know the power of a high school diploma and are invested in the success of every student and family. As families and students may be struggling with different roadblocks such as financial hardships, death of a family member, immigration, or a myriad of other problems-we want you to know that we are here for you. The last thing we ever want is for a student or a family to make the heartbreaking decision to dropout of school. We are happy to help students continue their education through personalized plans and options that may be able to help.
