RRE's speech/language program is similar to most other schools. Children with suspected communication are referred by teachers, parents, or other professionals in the community. A series of classroom interventions take place and if these are not effective the child is tested by the speech pathologist. Testing may include instruments to gauge the child’s ability to produce sounds correctly, to speak fluently and without detracting vocal qualities, and to comprehend and express thoughts in an orderly and grammatical fashion.
Children qualify by meeting the state standards for eligibility and then are provided speech-language therapy services as part of their school day.
