Curriculum Department Overview
The curriculum department oversees curriculum, instruction, and assessment in all areas.
The curriculum director is responsible for administering the instructional program of the district, updating curriculum and working with teachers, principals, curriculum coordinators, and the assessment coordinator to provide a strong, comprehensive educational program.
Subject coordinators are responsible for ensuring the quality and implementation of the state and federal mandated standards for prekindergarten-12th grade. Vertical and horizontal teams for all core subjects function under the guidance of the coordinators to ensure program and instructional equity across the district.
The bilingual and ESL programs span grades prekindergarten-12 and are coordinated with the regular instruction programs.
Assessment and accountability programs cover kindergarten through 12th grade and include placement, early reading, STAAR, and AP testing. GT programs are facilitated by the district level elementary and secondary GT coordinators and implemented by the campus GT program administrators.
The federal programs division ensures that all teachers meet the highly qualified standards mandated under the federal No Child Left Behind regulations and that all students are served as needed through the federal School wide Title I program. All associated state and federal programs, state tests, and interventions for students at-risk or in need of academic assistance are directed from the district level and coordinated through the campus instructional facilitators.
The curriculum department also coordinates staff development programs and new teacher mentoring and induction programs.
A-F Accountability System
The 84th Legislature passed HB 2804, changing the Texas school accountability system so that every campus and district receives one of five ratings from A-F.
