District Overview

Since 1887, the Waller Independent School District (WISD) has maintained a rich tradition of academic and extracurricular excellence. As one of the fastest-growing public school districts in Texas, the district provides high-quality education to more than 11,000 students in prekindergarten through 12th grade across 11 campuses.

Encompassing 328 square miles, WISD is among the largest school districts by total land mass in the Greater Houston region. Situated along U.S. Highway 290 approximately 40 miles west of downtown Houston, the community is undergoing rapid residential and commercial development. About half of the district lies in Waller County, which was named the second-fastest-growing county in America, and the other half lies in northwest Harris County, which is the nation’s third-largest county by population. To support this accelerating enrollment, instructional and administrative decisions are anchored in the district’s Academic Strategic Plan, long-range facilities planning, and fiscal responsibility. 

WISD’s collaborative approach to teaching and learning ensures that every student receives high-quality, research-based Tier 1 instruction designed to foster critical thinking, academic achievement, and long-term career readiness.

Long-range facilities planning is approached with regular research-based demographic studies, guidance from construction, facilities, and land acquisition experts, and a community-based committee to help guide decisions. This collective effort guides responsible capital construction and facility renovations, ensuring the District delivers high-quality instructional environments that support innovative teaching and learning at every campus.

Fiscal responsibility is embedded in every administrative and operational decision across Waller ISD. Through rigorous financial analysis and disciplined budget management, the district thoroughly evaluates every expenditure to ensure it directly aligns with the district’s vision, mission, core values, and strategic student success goals. By prioritizing high-impact instructional resources and essential facility operations while eliminating non-essential spending, Waller ISD maximizes taxpayer dollars to deliver the highest return for students and the community.

Beyond K-12 instruction, WISD remains deeply rooted in the community, offering a multitude of Parent and Family Engagement learning and youth enrichment opportunities. In addition, the district has partnered with the Houston Food Bank to offer regular food distributions to serve the community, and it has just launched the CARE Closet, a resource center for students and families in need. 

As the district grows, the Board, administration, and staff are dedicated to continuing to offer its family atmosphere and personalized approach to serving students, families, and the community with a “whatever it takes” mindset to ensure all students achieve success in school and in their futures.
