Superintendent
Bennie Mayes has proudly served Texas public schools since 2002 and has called Waller ISD home for more than half of his career. A respected educator and leader, Mayes is widely recognized for his ability to inspire others, strategic decision-making, and ability to solve complex challenges with grace and adaptability. He is a servant leader who has consistently prioritized the well-being and growth of students, staff, and families throughout his career. His journey in education includes service to the Bellville ISD community as an elementary teacher, high school coach, and alternative school coordinator, to Waller ISD as a high school assistant principal and junior high principal, and to Bryan ISD as a high school principal before returning to Waller ISD in 2018 as the Chief of Secondary Schools. He was unanimously named superintendent in spring 2025. Mayes earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Master's Degree in Education Administration from Prairie View A&M University. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Denise. The couple is proud parents to three children. Outside of work, Mayes enjoys attending school functions, sporting events, and family gatherings.
