Model-Lead-Test is a great strategy to use in math, especially for your older students (grades 4-12). The teacher will begin by modeling the problem for the students, then leading them through the problem, and last testing them on what they have learned.
Teacher models various math problems with the students (slope, multiplication, division, etc.) The students will follow the modeling, obtaining a lot of different examples from the teacher.
The students are given the same problem, and the teacher will lead the students through it. Students will be given the opportunity to practice how to correctly assess the problem.
After leading the students through the problem, the teacher will then give the students their own problem and allow them to try it on their own. This gives the students the opportunity to “test” the type of problems they have been learning at hand. By giving the students the “test,” allows the teacher to see which students get it the information and which students need a re-teach.
