M. Kim Pruitt
My experience in education spans 25+ years while working with students PreK-12 in both Arizona and Texas. I began my teaching career at the high school level followed by junior high and elementary levels. I have taught science, Spanish, P.E., health, Gifted & Talented, and English as a Second Language, as well as coached both boys and girls sports. I am a 2014 graduate of Lamar University with a Master of Education in School Counseling and a 1992 graduate of Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and Forestry. I hold Texas Certification in School Counseling, Science, and English as a Second Language. I am also certified as a Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals.
My dogs and "Co-Counselors," "Josie" (a Golden Retriever), "Hank," and "Remy" (Australian Shepherds), are members of our WISD staff. The dogs have been trained and are registered as therapy animals with Intermountain Therapy Animals and affiliate group Montgomery Pet Partners. We offer Animal-Assisted Intervention (AAI) as part of our comprehensive counseling program. We have an additional certification for the R.E.A.D® program (Reading Education Assistance Dogs). My youngest dog "Story" (a Golden Retriever) is currently in-training. Please link to the dogs' pages for more information.
I enjoy research and advocacy of AAI. I have presented at the local, regional, state, and national levels to others in the counseling profession. I also am a Director on the Alumni Board and the Department of Counseling and Special Populations Board for Lamar University.
I am so proud to be part of such an amazing district.
