Mrs. SANDRA SMITH
I began my teaching career in Pflugerville ISD in 1990 where I was an assistant band director for four years. When I had my first child in 1994, I stayed home and taught private flute lessons and substitute taught for 12 years. In 2006 I started teaching in Waller ISD as the 5th grade music teacher and a beginning band director. My current title is Director of Bands at Waller Junior High. I teach the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, beginning flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and saxophone.
I want students to develop a life long love of music. My desire is for students to someday look back on their years in band with fond memories. My goal is for every student to successfully learn how to play their instrument, work together with other students toward a common goal and to enjoy their experience in band. In addition to learning how to play an instrument, I want my students to learn valuable skills to make them successful in the workplace after high school. Students in band learn responsibility, how to work with others as a team, punctuality, and grit (how to push through when things get difficult).
