Mrs. Jessica Sanchez

Hello! My name is Jessica Sanchez. I currently teach English II at Waller High School. In addition to teaching English, I also serve as the English Department Chair. The 20/21 school year will be my third at Waller High School. Education is not my first career. Prior to becoming a classroom teacher, I was a parent educator for a non-profit. The focus of that work was child abuse prevention. While my heart was dedicated to those families, I felt like I was being called to serve my community in a different way through education.

I am not a native Texan. My family moved to Kermit, TX from St. Louis, MO when I was a sophomore in high school. It was a drastic change for me, but I have now been in Texas for 24 years. In high school, I participated in academic UIL competitions, was on the yearbook staff, and wrote for the school newspaper. I graduated from Kermit High School in 1999, then went on to college where I had earned a scholarship in the focus area of journalism. I eventually switched majors to Sociology, minoring in Family and Consumer Science. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University, and then entered the social work field.

In addition to being an educator, I am a mom to four children. I have two sons, Caleb and Caden, and two daughters, Harper and Helena. We moved to Waller six years ago when my husband, Luis, was transferred to this area. I was so excited when I was able to join the WISD family. I feel that I have so much to offer the children in my classes, and I have also been fortunate to grow as an educator in this district. I look forward to many more years at WHS!
