Howdy!

My name is Mrs. Johnston, and I’m thrilled about being one of your child’s 7th grade teachers! We are going to have a wonderful adventure together as we learn so much more about the mechanics and creativity of Writing this year, and how to be an effective and fun Reader. I really look forward to getting started!

Here’s a little information about myself, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Texas A&M University in College Station. Whoop! I am a continuous learner through professional development courses and workshops that I take each year; I also consistently learn through my students everyday. I fully believe that being a lifelong learner is important! Which is why I worked on obtaining my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction last year. I consider myself very fortunate to be teaching at Waller Junior High surrounded by such a supporting community. I have a husband, Joe, who works as a research farmer just south of Waller. Together we have two beautiful dogs, Lucy and Dean, and are expecting our first baby. We often go to the movies and play nerdy board games in which Joe always beats me.

You should know that what happens in our classroom will affect your child’s future. Your child’s time here will be well spent, I promise! He or she may even come home exhausted from all the thinking done during the day because I will make every minute count. We have a fantastic group of children this year. I look forward to a terrific year ahead. With you as my partner in your child’s success, we can make that happen.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions and concerns!

Sincerely,

Kendall Johnston

  • Counting by 7s

by Holly Goldberg Sloan Year Published: 2013

Wow. I loved this book! It was nothing like I thought it would be. I appreciated the witty humor and references made in this book about a girl who is partially autistic and loses her parents. She must move in with a family that is nothing like her original one and re-evaluate her life.

  • Sticks & Stones

by Abby Cooper Year Published: 2016

It's written from the perspective of a 12 year old entering middle school with a rare disease that has the words she hears and thinks about herself on her skin. It's an endearing story about not letting the choices your friends make hurt you and overcoming how words effect you.

  • The Girl Who Drank the Moon

by Kelly Barnhill Year Published: 2016

It took me a solid week to read this book back in July... and I loved it! It captivated me and made me think. The characters were deeply connected and the story was easy to follow and enjoy. I highly recommend this book! If you love fantasy, you'll love this one :)
