Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Leslie Pennybacker

Welcome Bulldogs! My name is Leslie Pennybacker, I have the privilege of teaching English Language Art/Reading (ELAR) at Schultz Junior High School.  I have been teaching in some capacity since 1985, and I have been in Waller ISD since 2018. I completed my first masters in Education of Hearing Impaired, interpreting, and counseling at the Pennsylvania State University, and then, when I realized my  junior high students didn't know how to navigate a book, so I pursued my second Masters as a Reading Specialist at Aurora University in Illinois.

A little background .....I began my journey in education when I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a Bachelor's Degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences.  Language and how we acquire language has always fascinated me, I am a self-proclaimed word nerd.    I am a native Maryland girl, but I've been blessed to teach and live in many states:  Maryland, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, New York, back to Illinois, and now Texas. I met my husband, Mark, in Maryland. We have been married 32 years, and Mark has always  supported my teaching and learning itch.  We have two wonderful daughters Kait and Jessica.  Though my family is spread out across the states, I have adopted and love my new family at Schultz Junior High.

As we embark on this school year, I am excited to get to know you and your kiddos.  Thank you for entrusting me with their learning as they graduate from elementary school to junior high school. I love "Middles!" This is an exciting new chapter, and I look forward to growing young minds in reading and writing.
