Waller ISD (WISD) elementary and junior high schools recently competed to be named district Name That Book winners. Name That Book is a districtwide competition where teams must read a total of 30 books and then compete to identify correlating quotes. The competition is divided into elementary and secondary levels. Teams of 4-6 students first compete on their campus to see who will advance to the district level. This year there were nine elementary and eight junior high teams that advanced. Students began preparing at the beginning of the school year by reading and discussing books. During the competition, teams have 15 seconds to “Name that Book'' after each of 30 quotes is read. This year, Turlington Elementary teams, led by volunteer coaches Nikki Dincans and Stacy Pratt, as well as advisor Melanie Scales, took first and second place respectively in the elementary portion. First place TES team members were McKinley Dincans, Hailey Hornsby, Mackenzie Lance, Ellie Marcus, Tinsley Spillars, and Roxie Thaemar, and second place members were Connor Duran, Carson Long, Brycen Orlando, and Colton Pratt. On the secondary level, Waller Junior High (WJH) won first place and Schultz Junior (SJH) took second. WJH team members were Daniella Long, Ismael Loredo, Aricely Molina, Violet Smith, and Miya Williams led by advisor Kim Perry. The SJH team was made up of Brylee Lynch, Phiaberry Muthra, Kristin Nichols, and Addison Staggs led by advisor Vanessa Ragsdale.
