WISD Junior High Choirs are Superior
When choirs representing both Waller ISD (WISD) junior high schools, Schultz Junior High (SJH) and Waller Junior High (WJH), competed in the annual Blinn College Choir Festival each earned a Division 1, “Superior” rating from the panel of judges. This is the highest possible rating a choir can be awarded. While this is not the first time WISD junior high choirs have competed in the event and earned a Division 1, it is the first time both choirs received top ratings. Both SJH and WJH choirs are under the direction of Laura McBride. In preparation for the competition, each choir rehearsed for two months and hosted a spring concert that included a preview of their competition selections; Dona Nobis Pacem by Mary Lynn Lightfoot and Cantate Hodie by Mary Lynn Lightfoot. The performances were judged on tone, technique, interpretation, stage appearance, and other miscellaneous categories such as clarity and repertoire.
“I am so proud! The students were so prepared and ready to perform,” McBride said. “I was told countless times how the students from WISD were the best-behaved children and one of the best groups of the day."
