WJH Boys Cross-Country Team Claims District Championship

Waller Junior High 7th grade Cross-Country Team

Oct. 24 the Waller Junior High (WJH) boys cross-country team competed in the UIL Region IV Cross-Country District Meet in Montgomery. Sixteen schools participated in the event, with approximately 150 runners in each divisional race. Despite the poor weather conditions, WJH displayed their talent and determination with seventh-grade claiming the Championship title and eighth-grade winning runner-up. The top two teams were awarded plaques and the top 25 finishers received individual medals.

The seventh-grade team won first place overall with Manuel Espinoza leading the team. Other top finishers and medalists were Anthony Velasquez (third), Jordan Medina (seventh), Leonardo Martinez (12th), Josemiguel Arce (19th), and David Langford (25th). Other team members were Julian Alvarado, Johnnie Coleman, Benjamin Hartley, Angel Liwanag, Diego Martinez, and Estrada Quintanilla.

The eighth-grade team won second place overall. The top five finishers were Hunter BrzymialkiewiczWaller Junior High 8th grade Cross-Country Team (ninth), Colby Carranza (10th), Kevin Balboa Gallegos (18th), Jose Uriostegui (26th) and Alias Rodriguez (30th). Other team members were Fidel Bocanegra, Brill Cooper, Daniel Ordner, Ivan Nunez, and Israel Suarez.

“The athletes hard work and dedication to the cross-country program have definitely resulted in a successful season,” WJH Cross-Country Coach Lawrence Christie said.

Team members were thrilled to bring the Championship title to their school and receive individual honors. They look forward to another successful season next year.
