Schultz JH Students Walk Like Bulldogs

Schultz School Store Schultz Junior High (SJH) is encouraging students with the addition of a school store. The Walk Like a Bulldog Store is part of the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, which helps proactively inspire positive choices. To purchase items from the store, students “Walk Like a Bulldog” to earn Bulldog Bucks from teachers and staff. Bulldog Bucks are earned by good grades, positive behavior, acts of kindness, and more.

“The idea for the store was a team effort that has evolved into students being able to purchase items to help reinforce positive behavior and good manners,” Assistant Principal Binal Patel said.

The store is open every Friday to all students during lunches. Items include candy, bags of chips, pencils, lanyards, t-shirts, sports equipment, games, earbuds, reusable cups, and books. Students can spend their bucks all at once or save up for larger items. To select items for the store, the school received feedback from students via a survey. The most popular items are candy, chips, sports equipment, and jewelry. All items are purchased by the school or donated by staff and community members.

“The store gives students something to look forward to,” Patel said. “They are excited and super eager to earn and spend their Bulldog Bucks.”

Along with the store, SJH implements other programs to motivate and recognize students. SJH has continued its Pride in Academic, Working toward Success (PAWS) program, which aides in grades, conduct, attendance, and behavior. Every six weeks, students who have maintained a 75 average or higher in all classes, have no referrals, no ISS, no unexcused absences, and show excellent or satisfactory conduct, are invited to a PAWS celebration. SJH also recognizes Students of the Week that exemplify strong character, positive attitudes, and work ethic.
