JES Teacher Wins Presidential Award

Photo of Angelica Nino Jones Elementary (JES) Teacher Angelica Niño has been awarded a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Niño began her teaching career at Waller ISD (WISD) in 2000, teaching at Holleman and Turlington Elementary Schools. She briefly taught in San Antonio and it was during this time that she was nominated for the PAEMST. The award is given by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. They recognize outstanding educators who aid in the advancement of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science through teaching. Niño was one out of three Texas Finalists for the national award that only recognizes 180 teachers each year. Each winner receives a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a $10,000 award from the NSF, and a trip to Washinton D.C. Niño is currently a third-grade bilingual teacher at JES and is pursuing her Masters in Mathematics Education at the University of Texas at Arlington.
