HES Incorporates STREAM Time

Photo of HES STREAM Time Holleman Elementary (HES) has set time aside for students to expand their interest in Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math (STREAM) with the creation of STREAM Time. HES’ Advanced Academics Committee created STREAM Time to allow students a chance for enrichment in an area of their choice. STREAM Time is held every Friday for 30 minutes, where students spend their time practicing for UIL or joining a club related to their hobbies.

“We made STREAM Time to incorporate time to practice UIL events, increase Advanced Academics through a variety of activities, and encourage attendance on Fridays.” Principal Ashley Abke said.

HES offered a wide variety of clubs for students to choose from including, all UIL events, Technology, Coding, Board Games, GIRLS Fit Running Club, or an overflow class where they can read and/or draw. To help with the clubs, HES recruited third through fifth-grade teachers to sponsor each club.

“The overall goal is that this is something students look forward to while also developing important skills as well,” Riemer said.

STREAM Time is open to all third through fifth-grade students and kindergarten through second-grade Gifted and Talented students. Students had to choose one club they want to participate in during this time. To help students narrow down their choice, they choose two activities they were interested in to try for the first two weeks. By the third week, they finalize their decision on which activity they will visit for STREAM Time.
