Go Texan Day at Waller ISD

Photo of Waller ISD Go Texan Day Feb. 22 Waller ISD (WISD) elementary schools celebrated Go Texan Day. The day has been a Houston-area tradition since the 1950s and is the unofficial kick off to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR). It encourages the community to celebrate Western heritage and raise awareness of HLSR season. Students rounded up their finest western clothing to wear throughout the school day.

Leading up to the day, students did activities focused on the western theme. Along with parents, they created decorations to fill hallways with boots, hats, and Go Texan Day signs. H.T. Jones Elementary students had a special visit from Prairie View Trail Riders as they traveled to the HLSR. In several schools, students were taught how to line dance, which they performed for families during a special showcase.

Fields Store Elementary (FSE) integrated Go Texan Day with their Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) pep rally. FSE teachers competed in barrel races while holding onto stuffed horses and students raced Therapy Dog Story Pruitt.
