Waller High School Holds Annual Senior Recognition Night
May 16 Waller High School (WHS) seniors and their families gathered for Senior Recognition Night, a night where the Class of 2019 was honored for their dedication and hard work during high school in pursuit of future success. During the evening, over $4 million in scholarships were awarded, military enlistees were recognized, and honors graduates were named.
“This program represents the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of students who diligently pursued scholarships within our local Waller community,” Jensen said.
The first awards given were scholarships to students from more than 38 local businesses and organizations. Next, 18 seniors who have enlisted in the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Navy were recognized. Then, students who were awarded scholarships from universities or colleges were announced. As students were named, WHS counselors listed each scholarship received and the student’s chosen school, major, and career.
Finally, the Class of 2019 Honors Graduates were announced. Each senior who earned this achievement was given a cord to wear during graduation. Students with the class rank of 27-72 are Cum Laude graduated, rank of 3-26 are Magna Cum Laude, and the top two students were Summa Cum Laude. The top two students also serve as the valedictorian and salutatorian. Congratulations to Valedictorian Laura Duncan and Salutatorian Jonathan Cruz.
“In the following weeks these students will start their next journey. They will walk across the graduation stage and go onto college and careers,” Principal Stephanie Fletcher said. “I am so excited for them and very proud, and I hope they cherished their time at WHS.”
