WHS Girls Soccer All-District, Academic All-State Honors Announced
For the fifth time in history, Waller High School’s (WHS) girls soccer team made it to the playoffs. Their season record was 10-11-3. They were knocked out of the playoffs in round one by Kingwood Park High School. For their work on and off the field, sixteen athletes were awarded All-District Honors and two received Academic All-State Honors.
Congratulations to 19-5A District honorees: Newcomer of the Year: Moncerrat Arellano; First Team All-District: Stormey Stringer, Krystal Ortuno, and Moncerrat Arellano; Second Team All-District: Yailene Rivera, Alexis Sanchez, and Stephanie Esquivel;Honorable Mention: Cristal De Santiago and Coral Cureton; and Academic All-District: Belinda Adame, Avery Conklin, Melanie Dominguez, Stephanie Esquivel, Alexis Guerrero, Roselyn Martinez, Krystal Ortuno, Kori Paliwoda, Lilly Rinehart, Yailene Rivera, Stormey Stringer, and Julia Woulds.
Two seniors were awarded Academic All-State Honors: Lilly Rinehart and Krystal Ortuno. All-State honors are given to athletes who excel in three categories: GPA, class rank, and ACT/SAT scores. To be nominated for the award, students have to be an athlete with good moral character and a GPA of 90 or higher all four years of high school.
