Waller ISD (WISD) is pleased to announce its newest team member: Executive Director of School Safety Jamie Woodall. Woodall joins the WISD family with 17 years of experience in public education and has been recognized at both the state and national levels for her important work to build school health and safety measures. In this role, Woodall will lead planning and collaboration efforts amongst WISD and first responder agencies throughout the district to enhance preventative measures and preparations in the event of an emergency.
“The health and safety of the Waller ISD family have always been our highest priority,” WISD Superintendent Kevin Moran said. “We have completed a comprehensive school safety audit this summer. The report from that will help Jamie prioritize projects and move us forward. She brings a new kind of expertise to our team that will help us as we work on prevention, preparation, and response strategies. Our goal is to be known not only for our comprehensive learning opportunities but also for safe schools. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to make that happen.”
Safety is the first step in creating an effective learning environment for students and staff. Woodall will play an important role in all WISD health and safety initiatives. She will work in close collaboration with Harris County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers (SROs), district and campus leaders, nurses, athletic trainers, and counselors as well as officials from Harris County, Waller County, the City of Waller, the City of Prairie View, Rosehill Fire Department, Tri-County Fire Department, and more.
“I am excited to join the Waller ISD family and build a culture of school safety. I’ve already been out walking campuses and getting to know the great people in this district,” Woodall said. “Safety is a collaborative effort amongst everyone in our schools. We have to plan and coordinate with response agencies, make sure our staff and students have the best training and tools, and ensure our parents and families know we have a solid plan in place.”
Woodall’s passion for school safety includes a multidisciplinary approach to classroom and campus safety, sports safety, transportation procedures, as well as training developed for administrators, staff, students, parents, and community members. She comes to WISD from Brenham ISD where she served as the director of health and safety. Woodall also led work in both Brenham and Bryan ISDs to earn the national Safe Sport School Award and plans to achieve the same status in collaboration with WISD athletic trainers. In Brenham, she was recognized for her ability to create collaboration and a comprehensive approach to school safety that resulted in robust products to equip all stakeholders in the event of an emergency.
Woodall earned her Master of Public Health; emphasis in Prevention Programs in School Safety from the University of North Texas and her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University.
