Waller ISD (WISD) recognized 23 future bulldogs who are preparing for elementary school at its H-E-B Read 3 graduation. WISD partners with H-E-B to offer Read 3, a literacy and kindergarten readiness program, to 3-4 year old children. Throughout six sessions children and their families learn about the importance of reading at a young age and healthy eating. Participants also have the opportunity to visit the H-E-B Fairfield Market location to tour the facility and learn about the behind-the-scenes work of the retailer. At the end of each session, students receive two new books. Sessions are presented by WISD Family Engagement Specialist Adela Cornejo, H-E-B Area Community Coordinator Lauren Beedie, and community volunteers Mayra Barahona, Clara Cofield, Jasmine Flores, Monica Gonzalez, Kiyanna Hanson, Jaydyn Martin, Carolina Mateos, Brooklyn Smith, Zian Talmir Richmond, Marbella Vazquez, and Juana Yepez. At graduation, students were awarded a certification of completion, a Read 3 graduate t-shirt, a backpack with school supplies, and a $25 H-E-B gift card.
