Waller ISD Athletic Director: NeKisha Durham
Waller ISD is pleased to announce the promotion of NeKisha Durham to Athletic Director. Durham is a proud Waller High School (WHS) graduate who has served as the WHS Girls’ Athletics Coordinator since 2016 and WHS Girls’ Head Basketball Coach since 2015. As Athletic Director she will oversee the district’s athletics programs for both boys and girls, provide leadership and guidance to coaches, act as the district’s UIL liaison to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and coordinate games, practices, and event schedules. Durham will also continue to serve as the WHS Girls’ Head Basketball Coach.
“I am blessed, honored, and excited for the amazing opportunity to serve as athletic director of my alma mater. It is my life's ambition to assist in the development of young men and women into leaders and contributing members of society through life lessons gained in athletic participation,” Durham said. “Overall, I want to ensure that our coaches are supported so that their ability to impact kids on a daily basis is maximized. Our objective for Waller athletics is to consistently pursue excellence in the classroom, establish consistent success across all sports, and instill a true sense of ‘Bulldog Pride’ that exemplifies our district motto; We ARE Waller.”
In her 23 years of experience, Durham has also served Stafford Municipal School District (Stafford High School) as an English teacher, assistant softball coach, assistant track coach, head basketball coach, and Girls’ Athletic Coordinator (2005-2015); Lewisville ISD (Huffines Middle School and Lewisville High School) as an English teacher, physical education teacher, and coach (basketball, cross country, volleyball, track, and soccer) (1999-2002). She first served WHS as an English teacher and coach from 2002-2005.
Durham has been selected District Basketball Coach of the Year five times, is a member of the WHS Athletics Hall of Fame, holds an overall basketball coaching record of 380-259, and is an academic leader as well. She was nominated Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2007. Durham earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Studies from Tarleton State University, Master’s degree in Education from Tarleton State University, and Master’s degree in Education Administration from Prairie View A&M University.
