Oct. 12, members of the Waller ISD (WISD) community gathered in the auditorium of the new Waller High School (WHS) for the official dedication ceremony of the facility. The program featured a multitude of student groups including the national champion Air Force JROTC and award-winning band and choir as well as comments from WISD officials, students, and Waller County Judge Trey Duhon. 

“On behalf of the Waller ISD Board of Trustees and the Waller ISD community, this new Waller High School is formally dedicated to serving the students, staff, and community as they work to achieve their highest aspirations now, and in the future. Let this building be a symbol that We Are Waller and we are leaders in education and beyond,” WISD Board President David Kaminski said. 

The new WHS, located at 31213 Waller Spring Creek Road in Waller is 620,000 square feet and one of the only high schools in Texas that offers comprehensive academic, fine arts and athletic as well as Career and Technology programs all under one roof. In addition to traditional academic, athletic, and fine arts opportunities, the school offers space for students to earn over 20 industry-based certifications in more than 15 career and technical education fields and more than 40 hours of dual credit college courses.

“We are extremely proud of what is happening at WHS, but understand we are not done. We are constantly striving to add additional programs and courses in order to keep us on the leading edge of education. The facilities this new school provides will allow us the space needed to serve our students and grow our programs. It is incredibly exciting,” WISD Superintendent Kevin Moran said.

Following the ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to walk the building where WHS students and staff were on hand to showcase what their new learning environment provides. The evening ended at WISD Stadium, directly south of the school, where students and families districtwide celebrated together during the community homecoming pep rally. 

The new WHS was overwhelmingly approved by voters as part of the 2019 WISD bond package that set the district on a strategic course to handle the rapid growth of the district for decades to come.
