As part of its mission to help students be college ready and connected to school, Waller High School (WHS) hosted its annual College Night Oct. 10. The event coincided with Generation Texas week, where schools inspire students to pursue and achieve a higher education. In an effort to connect with students outside of WHS, the entire Waller community was invited to attend.

“This week is important to students as it prepares them with post-secondary options,” College and Career Counselor Jessica Jensen said. 

During College Night, students had the opportunity to meet with representatives from post-secondary and higher education institutions to ask questions and plan for their future. There were over 60 booths representing in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities, community and junior colleges, technical and trade schools, and educational opportunities in various branches of the military. Representatives provided valuable information about their admissions process, academics, and activities.

“It is amazing when students get to talk to universities and decide on their next journey,” WHS Principal Stephanie Fletcher said.

Break out sessions were also held throughout the evening. Some sessions provided families with specific information for how to guide and support their student as they prepare for life after high school, while others discussed NCAA eligibility, advanced placement, and financial aid planning.

“This opened up a whole new world of opportunities for me,” WHS Senior Angel Ratcliffe said.
